Ralph

Ralph has been rightfully crowned as the “Big Handsome Man” award winner, and the reasons are clear. He’s a magnificent blonde retriever mix, boasting soulful brown eyes and an adorable pink nose. With his fur billowing in the breeze, it’s easy to picture him as the poster dog for a luxurious canine shampoo brand. He is looking for a home where he can feel like the loved protector that he is.

After four months with his new family, Ralph has returned to us. They adored him, and it was a tough choice to bring him back. Sadly, Ralph’s protective instincts interfered with their vibrant social life. While Ralph believed he was safeguarding his family, such behaviour requires consistant training to handle, which they were unable to provide.

Now that Ralph is back in the kennels, we have focused our training on neutrality on walks with other dogs. He is doing very well and can now calmly walk with many of our other kennel dogs. We would still ideally rehome him as the sole dog, he takes up enough room all on his own! We are always happy to organise a handling lesson with our trainers for a prospective owner to ensure he keeps up the good work. Ralph loves being out for walks, especially if you can stop it the top of a hill so that he can stop and survey his territory.

He was originally a rescue from Macedonia where he was extremely skinny, when he went off to his home he was definitely “well-loved” and this resulted in him being a bit on the chunky side upon his return.

Now that Ralph is at an ideal weight, he can run and play in the garden to his hearts content, he loves his football and a gentle game of tug-o-war. We keep him on a healthy nutritious raw food diet and he absolutely adores his dinners. He prefers some peace while eating, enjoying a bit of ambiance, so it’s recommended to feed him in a separate room, away from everyone else.

At the end of the day Ralph loves nothing more than snuggling up in his crate with a crunchy buffalo horn. A crate is a great way for him to have some peace and quiet when needed, akin to a small bedroom. He is a people-dog at heart so a bed in the living room would be just as nice. Ralph would prefer a home without children, he likes a quiet tranquil environment so an adult only home would be ideal.
