Meet Cosmo
Cosmo is a handsome Labrador mix, approximately two and a half years old, with a confident personality, a playful nature and plenty of enthusiasm for life.
Originally from Macedonia, Cosmo spent his early life surviving around a petrol station before being rescued and given the opportunity to experience family life in the UK.
Since arriving, he has discovered the pleasures of home comforts, regular walks and spending time with people. Unfortunately, his first UK home hasn't worked out as everyone had hoped, and Cosmo is now in kennels in Dover, Kent, while we search for a suitable new family.
Sometimes, despite everyone's best intentions, a dog's individual needs and a family's circumstances aren't quite the right match. Our priority now is finding Cosmo a home where his needs are understood and where he can settle into the next chapter of his life.
Personality
Cosmo is a confident, energetic and playful young dog who enjoys human company and getting out and about. He loves spending time with people, enjoys his walks and has plenty of character.
He has been good with other dogs and has previously been reported as good with cats. As with any new adoption, introductions to other animals would need to be carefully considered and managed.
Having already experienced living in a home, Cosmo has had the opportunity to become familiar with everyday household life. However, he does have some specific behavioural needs that prospective adopters will need to understand.
Cosmo has demonstrated resource guarding behaviour involving food and high-value items. This means he needs a home with people who recognise these behaviours, understand their potential risks and have the experience to manage them safely.
With appropriate management, consistency and continued positive training, we hope Cosmo can build on the progress he has already made.
Cosmo's Perfect Home
Cosmo is looking for an experienced, adult-only home with people who have a good understanding of canine behaviour, particularly resource guarding.
His new family will need to recognise the importance of managing access to high-value resources appropriately, respecting his boundaries and using positive, reward-based training methods. An understanding of how to prevent situations that might trigger guarding behaviour will be particularly important.
A calm, predictable home with established routines and people who are prepared to invest time in his continued development would be ideal.
Cosmo would suit someone who enjoys an active dog, appreciates his playful personality and understands that building a successful relationship takes patience, consistency and trust.
We recognise that Cosmo's needs mean he won't be the right dog for every household. Finding a suitable match is far more important than finding the quickest one.
Cosmo has so much to offer, and we're hoping there's an experienced dog lover out there who can give him the stable, loving home he deserves.
