Meet Danny

Under all those mats was a rather gorgeous little dog waiting to be discovered.

Danny was found alone on the streets in heartbreaking condition, his coat was heavily matted, he was covered in ticks and fleas, and he seemed to be quietly waiting for someone who was never coming back for him. Thankfully, someone did come.

Danny was brought to safety, given the care he desperately needed and, little by little, we began to see the beautiful boy underneath, and what a transformation it's been.

Personality

At no more than 2 years old, Danny has blossomed into a happy, affectionate little dog who enjoys human companionship and has so much personality. He's young, bright and has shown that he can form lovely relationships with the people around him.

Danny can also socialise with other dogs, but we've learned more about what he needs within a home environment, and finding the right home for him is much more important than finding one quickly.

Danny has shown resource-guarding behaviour around food. When food is placed in his bowl or personal space, he can become reactive if he feels that resource is being approached or threatened. He can also guard his crate while he is inside it, even when no food is present, because of this, Danny needs an adult-only home with experienced adopters who understand canine body language and resource guarding, can respect his safe spaces and are comfortable managing these behaviours appropriately.

Although Danny is able to socialise with other dogs, we'd prefer him to be the only dog in his home so that his environment and resources can be managed safely and consistently.

Danny can live with cats, subject to appropriate introductions and management.

Danny's perfect home

Danny isn't looking for just any home, he needs calm, experienced people who won't put him in situations where he feels he has to defend something that's important to him, and who can give him clear, consistent and positive support as he settles into family life.

There should be no children in the household, regardless of age, and his future family will need to understand that his crate is his safe space and should be treated accordingly.

Outside those specific situations, there is still the affectionate, cheerful young dog we've come to know. Danny's difficult start doesn't define him, but neither should the behaviours he's showing now be ignored.

For Danny, the right home isn't simply the one that loves him, it's the one that understands him too.
