Meet Thomas
Sweet, cheeky and absolutely bursting with puppy enthusiasm, Thomas is ready to swap kennel life for his first proper home.
Thomas is a happy young pup with plenty of energy, a playful personality and lots still to learn. He's expected to be medium to large when fully grown, so while he's still very much a puppy now, his future family should be prepared for that puppy enthusiasm to arrive in an increasingly substantial package!
Thomas was found in the hills alongside two other puppies by a member of the public out walking. The three pups were alone and vulnerable, with signs suggesting that other puppies from the litter may already have been lost to predators. Leaving the remaining three there simply wasn't an option, they were taken to safety and eventually came into rescue care, giving Thomas the chance to grow up somewhere safe.
Now he needs someone to give him the next bit: a home.
Personality
Thomas is a sweet, cheeky and energetic young boy who loves to play and explore. He's currently living around both puppies and adult dogs at the kennels and is getting lots of experience interacting with dogs of different ages.
One particularly lovely thing about Thomas is that he's learning to listen to other dogs. He enjoys inviting them to play, but if another dog isn't interested, Thomas generally respects the message and moves on. That's a really useful skill for a young dog who's still learning how the world works, so he could potentially live with a compatible resident dog.
He's also had experience around cats at the kennels, and it's fair to say Thomas isn't remotely intimidated by them, even a warning swipe from a cat hasn't particularly discouraged his attempts to make friends!
Thomas' interest appears playful, but his puppy enthusiasm could be overwhelming for a cat that prefers a quieter life. A home with cats could therefore be considered where the resident cat is confident and already comfortable around playful young dogs, with careful introductions and appropriate management while everyone settles in.
Thomas could also live with children aged 7+. He's a bundle of energy and, as he grows, an excited Thomas could easily knock over a smaller child without meaning to. Slightly older children who are comfortable around lively young dogs would therefore be the better match.
Thomas is still very much a youngster, and adopting him means taking on everything that comes with helping a young rescue dog grow into a well-rounded adult. His family will need to continue working on toilet training, lead walking, appropriate socialisation, engagement and everyday household skills. He'll need consistency, positive training and people who understand that good manners aren't something puppies arrive knowing automatically.
Thomas has plenty of potential, he just needs someone prepared to put the work in alongside him.
Thomas's perfect home
Thomas needs an active, engaged family who want to be involved in raising a young dog.
He needs play and exercise, but just as importantly he'll need training, enrichment, appropriate social experiences and plenty of opportunities to use his brain.
There will undoubtedly be puppy moments, there may be things he gets wrong before he learns to get them right, and if there's a resident cat, Thomas may need some help understanding that not everybody considers an enthusiastic invitation to play irresistible.
But that's part of bringing home a young dog.
Thomas has already been given the chance to grow up. Now he needs someone who wants to help him grow into the wonderful dog he's capable of becoming.
