Meet Ziggy
Ziggy is the boy who refused to give up on life.
Ziggy was once used by hunters, but when he became ill, he was abandoned in the wild and left to fend for himself, thankfully, our rescue team found him. He was extremely unwell, but there was still something in those eyes that told us Ziggy wasn't ready to give up. So neither were we. We got him to the vets, started his treatment and gave him the chance to fight.
Ziggy was diagnosed with leishmaniasis and completed a full course of treatment, he responded brilliantly and, once his health had stabilised, we were finally able to start discovering who Ziggy really was underneath everything he'd been through. It turns out he's rather wonderful.
Personality
Ziggy is what we affectionately call a Velcro dog, he absolutely adores people and would happily stick close to his human(s) whenever he gets the chance. He's joyful, playful, affectionate and always ready for a cuddle, but Ziggy is also very much a hound! He has the hound brain, hound nose and hound enthusiasm for exploring. He loves sniffing, searching and investigating the world around him, so activities that allow him to use that fantastic nose would be right up his street.
He's also food motivated, which is a great foundation for continued training.
Ziggy is an energetic young boy who loves being outdoors, enjoys water and is generally enthusiastic about whatever adventure comes his way, and after all that? A spot on the sofa with his people will do very nicely.
Ziggy also loves other dogs and could potentially share his new home with a suitable canine companion.
Ziggy's perfect home
Ziggy would thrive with people who understand — or are excited to learn about — the needs of a hound. He needs opportunities to explore, sniff and use his brain, alongside walks, play, training and plenty of human companionship. He doesn't need to be kept constantly busy, but he does need a life that gives that clever hound brain something to do.
Ziggy is looking for a cat-free home.
His new family will also need to understand his history of leishmaniasis and be committed to the ongoing veterinary monitoring or management needed to help keep him healthy and stable.
After being abandoned when he became ill, we'd particularly love to find Ziggy the kind of family who will be there for him whatever life brings next, because after everything he's survived, Ziggy isn't asking for much. Adventures, sniffing, water, a comfy sofa, another dog to play with, perhaps, and, most importantly, people he can Velcro himself to for good.
